Well, I never thought I'd say it: I found the perfect vacuum. I was on a quest, and never seemed to find the right vac that would be able to handle the copious amounts of dog hair I deal with everyday. I have burned out many a vacuum cleaner trying. I last used a Hoover Fusion cyclonic, and it was pretty good. Then, for the second time, it konked out. Scratch Hoover off the list. I thought "maybe I should just splurge"! But what to splurge on? I had been toying with the idea of getting a Dyson, but wasn't keen on the collection cup concept anymore (given my last 4 vacs were bagless). I researched many vacs, and finally settled on this (pricey) Oreck. I'm glad I got it, because it's (almost!) perfect. I was attracted to the light weight of the unit. Luckily, there is an Oreck store in my city, and I was able to "test drive" this vac. Here are the good/bad of it (mostly good):
Pros:
Light weight. really, it's a treat to not drag around a heavy vac anymore. this feature alone is worth checking out this brand
Power. it literally sucks all the siberian husky molted hair off my hardwoods, tile, area rugs and carpet in one pass. no lie. it's not just vacuuming, it's CLEANING your floors.
Lighted path. love the powerful LED light that allows you to see just what you've been missing w/your other vacs! actually, it's a great guide for hardwoods to see the dust
Dual speeds. the low speed is for hard surfaces or very low pile rugs. the high speed is for the hardcore carpet cleaning. both work exceptionally well
Dust catching bags/filter. i never knew what a wonderful thing to not have to dust after vacuuming. till i got this oreck.
Angled for easy cleaning under beds. this is another feature i never knew i was missing. it's wonderful to have a vac that can actually reach under the bed to get the dog hair and dust.
Ergonomic design. both the handle and the cord catch are designed to make vacuuming, and carrying the unit as easy as possible. even my mom who has arthritis says it's easy to move
Self-powered. it practically vacuums w/out effort. the high speed will sort of "pull" you along like a power mower. makes vacuuming so easy.
Extra long cord. the cord is 30ft long. this is a great feature...i can get around nearly my whole house on one outlet.
10 year warranty/service. includes yearly overhaul and belt replacement. can't beat that.
Free bags for 1 year.

Cons:
No on board tools. oreck just doesn't do it. that's why they include the canister i guess. it's a nice bonus.
Colors available are kind of ugly. but...who really cares about the color of a vacuum?! still would have been nice to have something a little cooler than dull red or dull blue..
Belt does not have teeth. i expect over time it will slip. then again, i have 10 years of belt replacement.
Overall...this thing is a dream. Compared to everything else I've tried (several Hoovers, Eureka, Panasonic, Bissel of every variety), it's worth every penny.

My sister has a Hoover Platinum it is good and seems to work well but the New
Oreck Platinum I purchased is much better built ,as well as the design is a direct pickup and Very powerfull route to the top feeded bag, also self adjusting to the carpet or hardwood floors I have both and it does a outstanding job.When on hardwood I put it on low speed and even sand is picked up,also the LED lights are very bright and show the carpet well ,the Hoover does not also the Hepa bag is much better and easier to remove and the brushes are real hair not nylon and 10 free tune ups,- per year is excellent and the ergo handle is very comfortable, and 2x as quiet which is also a big+.
The included 5lb shoulder strap carry vac is also a Hepa bag model and does a real nice job removing dust from the upholstery,and the attachments are noticably better made than the Hoovers .This machine is currently $200 off selling for $600, which is $150 more than the Hoover but well worth the difference ,also the stores and company is offering many payment options. With the full 10 year warranty and free annual tuneups you can't loose. One thing I would like to add the cordless Iron thrown in as a bonus my wife thinks is excellent
